What appears to be an old-fashioned two story colonial house in the midst of Phuket Town is where you’ll find the city’s best Thai food. This century year old house was converted about 20 years ago into an amazing Thai restaurant called Raya. Characterized by jade shutters, mosaic tile flooring, rustic ceiling fans, vintage posters, old photographs, and an antique bar, Raya screams of authenticity — but as well as a border-line eerie vibe. Eating here kind of feels like you’re at someone’s grandma’s house, so you know you’re in for a treat.
Earning a reputation for whipping up genuine Phuket-style Thai food, this restaurant attracts an extensive portfolio of clientele including locals, tourists, celebrities and even Thai royalty. The restaurant’s signature dish, Crabmeat Coconut Curry is so good that the dish is rumored to be ordered up on the regular via cargo by Raya’s ballin’ customers in Bangkok. Amazing curry aside, Raya’s got two and a half pages full of the restaurant’s most popular dishes and Thai favorites including Fried Shrimps with Tamarind Sauce and Deep Fried Sea Bass with Crispy Shallots. If you’re ever in Phuket, I highly recommend hitting up Raya. Everything we ate was legit, packed with flavor and so cot damn delicious.
Crab Meat with Curry and Coconut Milk (THB 400 or $12 USD).
I loved the big chunks of sweet tender crabmeat soaked in creamy coconut curry served atop bundles of rice vermicelli. This was good that I was tempted to smuggle some of this stuff back with me to Hong Kong.
Stir Fried Thai Veggies (Pak Meang) with Crispy Dry Shrimps (THB 200 or $6 USD).
Pad Thai with Shrimp and Peanuts (THB 180 or $5.50 USD). We had our fair share of Pad Thai this trip and Maya’s was definitely a winner!
Fried Shrimps with Tamarind Sauce (THB 120 or $3.60 USD each). These bad boys were effin’ banging. They were sweet, sticky and garlicky. Think JUMBO honey garlic prawns, but better!
Omelet with Deep Fried Pork Belly. The pork belly was next level flavorful and tender, wrapped up in fluffy scrambled egg goodness.
Pad See Ew (THB 180 or $5.50 USD). We ate pad see ew all day every day. It was unanimously one of our favorite dishes! We just can’t get enough of these thick strips of greasy smoky rice noodles!
Deep Fried Whole Fish with Garlic (THB 450 or $13.60 USD). The fish was moist, flaky and delicious with the crispy fried garlic.

Hi, do I have to make reservations you think? Or can just walk-in?
Hey Lena! It wasn’t too busy when we went, but I would make reservations just in case!
I live so close to it and have always wanted to go in but it’s always mobbed! Now we must go, thanks for the awesome photos and review! 🙂
Yes! You have to go, the crab meat coconut curry is amazing.
