I have a major sweet tooth! Patisseries and boulangeries were what I looked forward to most when visiting Paris. My homie Julien Pham who runs Parisian Epicurean magazine, Fricote, knows I have a thing for sweets and recommended L’Éclair de Génie! A shop conceived by pastry chef Christophe Adam dedicated to his obsession with ÉCLAIRS !!! Pursuing his passion at the early age of 16 years old, Christophe has become an incredibly respected pastry chef working for the likes of Fauchon. Christophe aspired to go solo launching his very own shop, L’ Éclair de Génie, where he showcases his collection of éclairs. Since then, Christophe has whipped up over 80 éclair creations and has a compilation of books all written in French, but with a whole lotta ÉCLAIR porn!
L’ Éclair de Génie opened its doors about two years ago and now has two concept stores in Paris. We hit up the location in Le Marais and were greeted with display cases filled with perfect rows of vibrant delectable 11 centimeter long éclairs. Stunning éclairs aside, L’ Éclair de Génie also offers a selection of chocolate bonbons, chocolate bars, sweet spreads and more. We decided to go all in on the éclairs. They all looked amazing so choosing which ones to taste was not an easy task. Check em’ out! I ranked them in order of CRAY saving the best for last!
Passion Framboise (€5.50 EUR or $7.60 USD each). This gorgeous passion fruit crème filled éclair topped with raspberries was tasty, but didn’t stand up to its competition. Personally, the passion fruit glaze was a little too sweet.
Café du Costa Rica (éclair on the left €5 EUR or $6.90 USD each). The Café du Costa Rica éclair was mad tasty stuffed with aromatic and smooth Costa Rican coffee crème filling and finished with crunchy dark chocolate beads on top.
Pistache Orange (€5 EUR or $6.90 USD each). I’m all about the pistachio flavored desserts, not so much orange though. The pistachio filling was super creamy and the orange wasn’t too prevalent giving the éclair a subtle acidic kick. The only down side was the green glaze which was again too sweet.
Caramel Beurre Salé (€5 EUR or $6.90 USD each). L’ Éclair de Génie’s best seller is the salted butter caramel éclair stuffed with creamy mascarpone. It was also one of my favorite éclairs.
Praliné Noisette (élcair on the far right €5.50 EUR or $7.60 USD each). I’m a sucker for nuts #pause, especially hazelnuts. This praline noisette packed with velvety hazelnut praline cream was amazing and left me wanting more. Loved the crunchy caramelized hazelnuts on top.
Vanille Noix de Pécan (white eclair in the middle €5.50 EUR or $7.60 USD each). I’m not a vanilla type of girl and almost skipped passed the Vanille Noix de Pécan, but saw that it was the second best seller at L’ Éclair de Génie. What seemed to be a simple vanilla éclair turned out to be the best éclair I’ve ever had. The Madagascar vanilla filling was deliciously potent which paired perfectly with the caramelized pecans.
