I had a long list of restaurants I wanted to hit up in LA. Roy Choi’s restaurants took up a huge chunk of that list. Located in the Line Hotel in Los Angeles is Roy Choi’s hot pot centric restaurant called POT. I love hot pot, especially Korean hot pot, so I had high hopes for this spot. Notorious for cooking Korean food through the eyes of an American-born Korean, Roy Choi puts his spin on hot pot whipping up some next level unconventional yet effing delicious hot pot.
The menu is amazing aesthetically as it is literally from a food selection perspective. It’s laid out like a newspaper filled with clever food puns referencing hip-hop lyrics and things only someone who smokes pot would understand. My favorite, Jiggae What Jiggae Who references Jay-Z using a play on a type of Korean soup (Jiggae meaning a Korean soup or stew). The menu is separated into four main sections including drinks, different types of hot pots, other Korean-inspired dishes and side dishes.
You definitely have to try the pot. We had two bowls of pot, and we could not handle that ish. Roy Choi does not fux around when it comes to pot, this stuff is heavy. One bowl between four people is plenty. The sides are dope too, order the potato pancake, the kimchi fried rice and the “Beep Beep” uni dynamite rice bowl.
